I am never for mob-justice nor vigilante justice, but will fall 100% behind the re-enactment of Roots of Heaven scene from the BOOK, where her little bare bottom wags too and fro as the elderly looking gentleman gives her a truly sound spanking, not 12 of the best!
I understand her argument, but it falls weak when you consider the impending demise of most of these beautiful animals in our lifetimes. Is it her fault? No, but the assumption that the money spent by big game hunters promotes the continued value of these animals is as weak as claiming the continued use of gasoline promotes its preservation! Nonsense! These developing nations will have gone through several revolutions, etc, before their governments can even think about conserving what is left of their very meager resources, no matter their intrinsic nor future value!
She is lucky she hasn't been killed by poachers, nor kidnapped by groups like Boko Harum and made to be somebody's obedient bride. She'd easily bring in more than the 15 dollars those girls in Nigeria supposedly were sold for.
Many good , well-intentioned conservationists have been killed in these countries for their brave work. It isn't too much of a stretch to imagine what these killers would do to actual competition from a female hunter! A sound bare-bottom spanking would be nothing compared to what these people would do to her!
We can only hope the "spanking" she receives from social media is enough of a wake-up call to return her to the states to hunt turkey and deer!

I'm replying here to TWO messages: One, by "fatherjim," mentions that he favors a remake of "The Roots of Heaven" from the "BOOK"... and he shows the word "BOOK" in all caps, to assure that we know which version he is talking about.
Now, I am famliar only with the MOVIE version of The Roots of Heaven made in 1958 by master director John Huston. And of course, as spankos we are all familiar with the supposed spanking when a lady hunter gets spanked for her supposedly cruel treatment of the elephants.
WHAT is it, about the book, that is different from the screen version?

But -- as I have ranted on this and several other boards for years -- AT NO TIME do we see the man's hand striking the lady's bottom. The whole scene is an elaborate fake.
NOTHING in the film shows us Madame Orsini being spanked. It's all smoke and mirrors.
As to whether I would welcome a "remake" of this movie, with that spanking scene, I would hope that the new film maker has the stones to actually show us a spanking, not try to deceive us as John Huston did in 1958.

Your points are well-made and well-taken. However, I think you're overlooking some terribly important facts re: The Roots of Heaven. In no particular order:
The ceremonious, ritualistic and very public nature of the spanking is titillating. And, while actual hand-to-rear contact is not seen, it's still clearly what was intended and what our *imaginations* are allowed to enjoy!
The man reads a kind of proclamation, referring to "twelve of the best" -- an iconic refrain (usually with the count of six) from British school kid discipline.
Someone intentionally warns that he "better not touch a hair on her head," to which the ring leader responds, "It's not her *head* that's going to be touched!" This builds anticipation and, in its sardonic tone, adds to the overall tone of public humiliation the hapless woman is about to endure.
He dispatches the eldest man to do the deed, "just so there's no misunderstanding" -- implying that a younger spanker might have created a more sexually-charged scene.
The spanker grabs the woman around the waist, positions her parallel to the floor and walks her over to the place where he'll seat himself in order to administer the 12 whacks. That long, deliberate walk to her place of punishment adds yet another dollop of deliciousness to this spanking scene.
When he begins to lift her dress, we realize two things: (1) that it's not enough to spank her through her dress; he's going to spank her over her underwear; and (2) if you look closely, you can actually see a hint of the bottom (sweet spot) of her buttocks!
The sharp report of the swats sounds like skin-on-skin -- implying either that he ended up taking down her panties, or that she's wearing very thin undergarments.

For quite a while, I suspected that the director, Ernst Lubitsch, was deliberately hiding the spanking from us for some bizarre reason or other. But no, I was wrong.
